Friday afternoon Ice Cream Ride - Traverses the local bike trail system and neighborhoods to various local Ice Creameries.
Saturday 67 (107km) - Our “Main Ride”. Escorted mass start near the Hotel then westerly through mixed business and residential, eventually riding into corn and beans. We pass a farm store (11 mi.) then enjoy a rest stop (20 miles) at Monroe School. Amble past working farms to lunch at Plain City Elem. School and lunch (34 miles). On through historic Plain City, Unionville City, Darby Creek, and 20 miles of farms to Mill Creek Township Hall and Park rest stop. Optional 19 loop begins and ends here. Head south towards home with a route past restrooms at Glacier Ridge Metro Park North (58mi) and South (61mi). Then meander through the trail system and parks, and Planned Developments of the City of Dublin to waiting watermelon.
Saturday 18 (29km) addition or Remote - Ride from the Millcreek Township Hall Rest Stop. A “dipping and rising” loop counter -clockwise through the berg of Ostrander and into the new Blues Creek Preserve (restroom, trails). Continue counter clockwise through the Thompson Road Covered Bridge and return to MillCreek Township Park Rest Area.
Saturday 29 (47km) Remote. - Park and depart at Plain City Elementary School, 580 South Chillicothe Road, Plain City. Meander south along Three Mile Creek to join the Saturday 67 route to the Monroe Elementary School Rest Stop. Amble past working farms to lunch at Plain City Elem. School.
Sunday 65 (95km). - Depart westerly on Rings Road with an escort, then zoom by or stop at the Plain City Elementary School Rest Stop at mile 9. Cross Rt 42 and Der Dutchman (closed on Sunday) on West Street and keep going west. Pass through the Bigelow Covered Bridge on Axhandle Road over the Little Darby Creek. It was built in 1873 and still holds up to bikes. Point the front tire northerly to Fairbanks School Rest Stop for an overlook of the valley and the old Streng Road steel bridge. Drive your bike southeast along the Ohio Scenic Byway and right through historic downtown Plain City to the Plain City Elementary School and Lunch (35mi). After a refueling lunch, peddle due north, crossing Rt. 161 and again into suburban farm country. Option to split at mile 40 to revisit the Millcreek Township Hall for 65 mile+ or proceed to Glacier Ridge Metro Park per below. Return to Marriot around the easterly golf courses and side paths of the City of Dublin.
Sunday 54 (71km) - Same route as the Sunday 65 until mile 40, then splits and rejoins the 65’ers as we cut through part of Glacier Ridge Metro Park and continue easterly by golf courses and side paths to the Marriot.
Monday 20 Breakfast to Plain City - Again head west out of Dublin past the Plain City Elementary School to Der Dutchman at mile 10. They open at a 6 am., or….
Monday 21 Breakfast to Hilliard and beyond - Bike lanes and Monday’s low traffic brings us south into Hilliard (near the Banquet location). Consider a scenic return trip up the Heritage trail, stopping to visit the interpretive center and drive side exhibits.
Terrain
The route committee did not feel that a profile view was worth the ink, for two reasons, 1. anyone can draw a line across the bottom of the page with their non-dominate hand, and 2. Ride with GPS will show it. However, the remote/option 19-mile loop has some dips, and the road is narrower than the others.
Other
1. Heritage Trail access is about 7 miles from the Host Hotel, so on your way north or south to shopping in Hilliard, ride through Homestead Metro Park to ingest some local history and get some learn’in. It is a nice asphalt trail that receives a good amount of local use.
2. Orchards are open. Apples at mile 11 Saturday morning.
3. The Plain City Historical Museum is open on Saturdays for 10 to 2 on Rt 161 in town ½ mile north of the Lunch stop.
4. At 3083 Liberty Road, Delaware, is the Stratford Ecological Center, a non-profit educational farm and nature preserve on 236 acres. It is not on our bike routes due to road conditions. You should find some tandem club mascots.
5. Columbus Zoo. No news on Jack Hanna’s schedule.
6. Golf.
